Two persons were injured and a vehicle was damaged when unidentified miscreants hurled grenades in front of Punjab National Bank branch at Ganeshguri in the heart of the city around 6.10 on Tuesday evening. Police suspect that the grenades were hurled from a passing vehicle.

One of persons injured in the grenade attack was an auto rickshaw driver. The injured were rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital. A city police picket is present just about 50 metres away from the site of the blast. Tuesday's attack in the city came after a lull in violence in the region.

The incident occurred about a kilometer away from the entrance to the state assembly complex where the budget session is scheduled to begin from March 1. The security has been tightened in an around the assembly complex in view of the forthcoming session.
