PIX: Left out in the rain, 4 ton 'ladoo' dumped into lake
The organisers of the Khairatabad Ganesh Mandap in Hyderabad were forced to dump their four ton ladoo into the HussainSagarLake after it was spoilt in the heavy downpour on Wednesday.
While most of the ladoos, made as an offering to the elephant-headed god Ganesh, were auctioned for lakhs of rupees in Hyderabad, the biggest of them had to go waste.

The 58 feet Khairatabad Ganesh idol was the tallest in Hyderabad and was set to be immersed last. Special arrangements were made but heavy rains on Wednesday delayed its immersion by several hours. It was finally immersed on Thursday afternoon.
Organisers said that the ladoo was kept in the open and the sudden downpour made it unfit for consumption.

While the ladoos of other pandals were auctioned, the organisers of Khairatabad pandal had decided to distribute it among at least 1.6 lakh devotees.
The ladoo was significant as it came from Malli Babu’s family from Tapehswara in East Godavari district of Andhra at a time when the state is experiencing a huge political divide. The family has been making the ladoo for this pandal for the last five years following all religious customs and rituals.

The ladoo of Balapur Ganesh was auctioned for Rs 9.26 lakh. The bidder was the former mayor of Hyderabad Teegala Krishna Reddy. Ladoos of other pandals fetched a price between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 7.5 lakh.
According to Hyderabad city police commissioner, this year 25,000 Ganesh idols were immersed in the HussainSagarLake. On the whole 65,000 idols were immersed in 22 water bodies in and around Hyderabad city. The procession and immersion generated 400 metric tons of garbage on one single day.
