Kashmir witnessed brisk Eid shopping on Tuesday with vehicular and pedestrian traffic clogging the roads in capital Srinagar.

People thronged the Srinagar markets and other towns since early Tuesday morning, making Eid related shopping which continued till late in the evening.

For the first time in many years, markets in capital Srinagar came alive with people shopping till late evening. The lights and illuminations underscored the festivity that marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Shops selling bakery, mutton, and poultry were overcrowded. Readymade garment and footwear stores also made brisk business after the market lull during the month of Ramadan.

The festive mood of the people this year presented a sharp contrast to the somber celebrations last year, when the valley was embroiled in a month-long unrest that claimed 112 lives and left hundreds other wounded.

The government's amnesty to 1200 youth booked for last years stone pelting incidents added to the festive mood of the people.
