PHOTOS: Snowfall in Srinagar affects normal life

Kashmir valley on Sunday received another snowfall, second in the past ten days disrupting road and air connectivity with rest of the country and affecting normal life.
The snowfall, which began late on Saturday evening, continued intermittently and brought normal life in capital Srinagar and other towns to almost a halt.

Vehicular and pedestrian movement remained skeletal on Sunday as the accumulating snow made it slippery and difficult to drive or walk on.
Though the state administration pressed into service snow clearing machines early on Sunday morning, the continuous snowfall nixed government efforts.
Kashmir University has postponed all undergraduate and professional exams scheduled for Monday and Tuesday in view of the inclement weather.

The MET office is predicting moderate to heavy snowfall across the valley in next 24 hours.
The coordinator disaster management Kashmir has issued a medium danger avalanche warning for higher reaches of Khilanmarg, Uri, Chowkibal, Tangdhar, Keran, Machil and Gurez in north Kashmir.

The people living in these snow bound areas above the height of 7500 feet have been advised not to venture in avalanche prone areas during the next 24 hours.
They have also been advised to keep cleaning the snow from the roof tops of their houses to avoid any causality due to roof collapse.

The Srinagar Jammu national highway which had closed for two way traffic for the past one week was again closed following the snowfall.
No flights could operate from here because of prevailing weather conditions.
