Delhi sizzles at 46 degrees C, hottest day of season

Delhiites on Sunday reeled under heat wave conditions with the mercury soaring to over 46 degrees Celsius in some parts of the capital, which recorded the hottest day of the season so far. This was five degrees above normal.
The temperature is expected to hover around a high of 45 degrees and low of 27 degrees on Monday.

The city's maximum temperature was recorded at 44.6 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung station on Sunday, whose readings are considered the official figures for the capital.
However, Palam area recorded 46.1 degrees Celsius while Ayanagar weather station recorded 45.8 degree Celsius and Ridge station recorded 45 degrees.

The meteorological department has predicted a rise in temperatures in the next few days. The dry heat is likely to continue, MeT officials said.
Churu in Rajasthan continues to remain the hottest place, registering a maximum temperature of 48.5 degrees Celsius. Temperatures were higher in other states like Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
