A Mercedes bus operated by BEST passes the iconic Chhatrapatti Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai

Mercedes, the world famous luxury automobile company, has lent three buses to Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking in Mumbai to find the road-worthiness of the vehicles on an experimental basis, reports N Ganesh.

BEST plies Mercedes buses in Mumbai

The 38-seater air-conditioned buses would be run by the BEST for a period of one month on existing three routes.

The three routes that have been selected to ply the Mercedes buses are route number 440 from Wadala to Borviali, route number 503 from Wadala to Kalamboli and route number AS1 from Cadbury junction in Thane to Backbay Depot.

 

BEST will be plying Mercedes buses for first time

Currently BEST is plying buses of Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors. This would be first time that BEST would be plying Mercedes buses.

After the one-month trial period, the buses would be returned to the Mercedes.

"We want to provide Merc luxury at the cost of the existing AC bus ticket. It is like a free ride offered to a buyer by the car company so that the commuter can get a feel of it," BEST General Manager, O P Gupta said.

As of now BEST has no plans to procure the Mercedes buses.
