Narendra Modi is popular with women! On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Tuesday the Gujarat chief minister received a handful of rakhis

Women from across the nation and even foreign nationals were spotted tying a rakhi to Modi in Gandhinagar. He received 5,000 rakhis on Tuesday, according to his website.

Modi received 5,000 'rakhis' on Tuesday

Reaching out to his sisters, Modi said, "I have experienced that while serving the society and the nation I am protected by the kavach (armour) of strength given by the women of India. Due to this I can overcome various challenges. Also I am inspired to serve the poorest of the poor, the marginalised."

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh used the occasion of rakhi on Tuesday to urge the people to ensure safety and security of women in the country.

"The festival of Raksha Bandhan is an occasion to strengthen the bonds of love and affection within our family and in society. It is also an occasion to re-commit ourselves to ensuring the safety and security of women," the PM said.
