Rahul Gandhi, the Congress vice-president, reached Fursatganj air strip in Amethi on Wednesday morning and then made his way to several booths in the area. The Gandhi scion chatted with voters and ensured that they had no difficulty casting their ballot.

The young scion’s act attracted much criticism from the AAP, which alleged that he was influencing voters and violating the norms set by the Election Commission. According to the EC, ‘On the day of the poll, no person who has been assessed to be having a  security threat and therefore given official security shall enter the vicinity of a polling station premise (within 100 metres) with his security personnel. Further, on the day of the poll no such person shall move around in a constituency with his security personnel. If the person provided with official security happens to be a voter also, then he or she shall restrict his/her movement -- accompanied by security personnel, to voting only.’

The Gandhi siblings came under fire after Priyanka’s aide Preeti Sahay was also seen at a polling booth in Jagdishpur. She was removed from the area after BJP’s Smriti Irani filed a complaint.
