Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday ruled out the possibility of joining the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre.

Replying to questions at a press conference in Lucknow, party supremo said, "There is no question of Samajwadi Party becoming a part of the UPA government, even as we will continue to support it from outside."

Asked whether he would extend a helping hand to the Manmohan Sigh government in case it were to fall in the wake of the heightening tensions between the Congress and ally Trinamool Congress, Mulayam shot back, "It is not part of the SP's duty to save a falling UPA government; it is for the prime minister to save his government."

Earlier, Sunday, Mulayam's son and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had made it loud and clear that the decision on SP joining the UPA government was left entirely to the party chief.

Meanwhile, taking serious note of loud celebrations by some newly inducted ministers in their respective constituencies which even led to the death of a young boy, Mulayam sought to issue stern instructions to all his partymen to shun such display of exuberance.

"I have directed all partymen to refrain from indulging in any such loud victory celebration; action would be taken against those who defy this directive", Mulayam asserted.
