Devotees take a dip at Pushkar fair

The famous Pushkar fair, which began last week in Ajmer, concluded on Thursday with thousands of devotees taking dips in the Pushkar lake, officials said.

Over five lakh people visited the annual fair, some 15-km from Ajmer, they said.

Rajasthani women take part in tug of war game at Pushkar fair

The town had transformed into a spectacular fair ground during the week-long event with colourfully dressed devotees, musicians, dancers, traders, monks and tourists descending to the tiny rugged town.

The Rajasthan tourism department also organised cultural programmes during the fair which began on November 3 where nearly 20,000 cattle were brought for livestock trading.

According to Hindu chronolygy, the fair takes place in the month of Kartika (October or November) beginning on asthami, the eighth day of the lunar calendar and continues till full moon.
