The biggest ever show of strength by the supporters of Telangana state brought Hyderabad city to a grinding halt on Sunday. More than a lakh people from all across Telangana flooded Hyderabad as a befitting reply to the challenge of Telangana opponents that nobody can divide Andhra Pradesh or take away Hyderabad from the Seemandhra people.

The 'Sakala Jana Bheri' rally at the Nizam College Grounds sent a thunderous message out that nothing less than a “Sampoorna Telangana” comprising of 10 districts and Hyderabad as it capital will be acceptable to the people of the region.

Leaders and representatives from all sections of the Telangana society, including politicians, intellectuals, employees, teachers, doctors, minorities and women got together on a single platform marking a new peak in the decades old struggle for separate state.

But there were also signs that the patience of Telangana supporters was being tested to the limit. Telangana Joint Action Committee convenor Kodanda Ram and co-convenor M Lakshmaiah lashed out at the state media and warned that if they continue to indulge in misleading propaganda and blackout the coverage of their agitation, playing up the agitation against Telangana, they will not keep quiet.

“If Monday's papers don’t carry the proper coverage of this rally on the front pages in all the Andhra and Rayalasema districts, we will start boycotting these Andhra papers from Tuesday,” declared Lakshmaiah, a journalist by profession.

Ram named two prominent educational groups of Andhra and said that their institutions in Hyderabad were being misused to oppose Telangana. “If this continues, there is a bound to be a reaction.”he said.

Interestingly, even as Telangana leaders were warning the “biased” Andhra media, many Telugu channels were beaming the meeting of Andhra supporters at Kurnool, ignoring the bigger rally in Hyderabad.

Telangana leaders and supporters were angry with the slow progress even two months after the Congress Working Committee’s decision to bifurcate the state.

Lashing out at Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for only speaking about Andhra and keeping quiet about the sufferings of the people of Telangana, he said that the only purpose for demanding for a united Andhra Pradesh was to continue to loot the resources of Telangana.

“Reddy will lose his position before October 6. His 'connection will be switched off',” he quipped.

Giving an example of the exploitation of Telangana resources to benefit AP, KCR quoted the chief minister as saying that only 90 tmc ft of water was allotted to Andhra projects from the River Krishna, but they were utilising 330 tmc ft of water by diverting the waters from the Srisailam project.

“I would like to ask the chief minister whether any project including Velugodu, Hendri Niva and Gale Nagari were allocated even 1 tmc ft of water.”
