Hurricane Sandy: Then to now, a year later in photos

The then and now photographs of Hurricane Sandy tell a remarkable tale of two cities -- New York and New Jersey -- how they were destroyed by the storm last year and the efforts taken to rebuild them.

It’s been a year since Superstorm Sandy literally flattened the United States east coast leaving at least 177 people dead.

Sandy, the most destructive storm to hit the US since the deadly Katrina in 2005, affected 24 states and caused destruction of more than $65 million dollars.

A year on, New Jersey and New York, which was worst affected by Sandy, is back on its feet.Here are some photographs from last year’s horror that tell story of dark days, which left hundreds without a home. But along with that is another story. Remarkable pictures that show the tremendous effort was taken to rebuild the cities that thought there was no tomorrow.
