Pope Francis is dubbed as the ‘Pontiff of Firsts’ for he is known to break tradition. And breaking protocol once again, the Pope obligingly posed for a “selfie” with a group of youngsters visiting the Vatican.

The picture appeared on the Facebook page of one of the youngsters, who used it as his profile picture. And now it’s going viral on the social media.

It was also posted on the Twitter page of one Fabio M Ragona, who is believed to be among the church group from northern Italy who posed with the Pope. The pontiff, however, has not posted it on his Twitter page.

Interestingly, the picture comes in the same week as Oxford English Dictionary included the word "selfie" to denote a self-taken photograph on a smartphone.

The photo prompted varied reactions on Twitter, with one user saying, "Now I've seen everything." One unenthused tweeter commented: "Just because Pope Francis poses for a 'selfie', doesn't make it okay!"
