Spotted: Dangerous suitcase on PM Modi's Nepal trip

Now this one’s straight out of a James Bond flick. Spotted during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trip to Nepal was this suitcase.

Reuters photographer Navesh Chitrakar, who clicked this photograph, captioned it: “A briefcase with a hidden gun belonging to security personnel is seen during India Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Nepali Prime Minister Sushil Koirala in Kathmandu August 3.”

Soon after the image was released on August 5, we gleaned over photographs of the prime minister’s trip. More likely, it was the Nepalese security staff who were walking around with the improvised weapon (We believe the suitcase contained a HK MP5K submachine gun).

Designed by Heckler & Koch in the 1970s, the HK MP5K submachine gun is the shorty version of the classic MP5, weighs just 4.4-pounds, and is 12.8-inches long overall with a 4.5-inch barrel. It is much zippier than the standard MPs and has a cyclic rate of 900rpm. This meant it could drain a 15 or 30-round magazine in either one or two seconds respectively.

Almost as soon as it was introduced, HK distributors had a string of fast sales to dignitary protections groups and special operations forces around the world.

Wonder if the weapon ever caught the fancy of Indian security agencies?
