A Lashkar-e-Tayiba militant who had been holed up inside a house at Ahmadnagar in the outskirts of Srinagar seems to have managed to evade the police cordon.
Eight policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, were injured in the operation, which saw security forces surrounding the Ahmadnagar area on Wednesday evening on specific information about the presence of a militant commander in a house.
“As the police and Central Reserve Police Force troopers were laying the cordon, the hiding militant hurled grenades and engaged them in intermittent gunfire during which he managed his escape taking cover of darkness,” a senior police officer said.
