Ruled by seven Nizams for two centuries, Hyderabad state had its own army, airline, telecommunication system, railway network, postal system, currency and radio broadcasting service.
After Partition, the Nizam wanted a sovereign state -- he even considered merger with Pakistan -- but after a short military campaign, Hyderabad became part of the Indian Union in 1948.

Six months for Telangana

It will take almost six months for the new state of Telangana to come into being.
It will include adoption of the State Re-Organisation bill by Parliament by a simple majority.
After being passed by both Houses of Parliament, the Bill will be sent to the President for his assent and the new state Telangana will come into existence.
