ZaraBol: Are TV channels creating family quarrels?

December 19, 2011 21:57 IST

Are programmes telecast on small screen pitting daughters-in-law against mothers-in-law?

At least DMK Rajya Sabha Member Vasanthi Stanley thinks so.

Participating in the debate on The Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2011, Stanley, who is also a member of the Regional Film Censor Board, Chennai, said many television programmes are aimed at "brainwashing" women.

"Though these things (fights between daughter-in-law and mother-in-law) used to happen in the past, many TV programmes are still showing them prominently," she said.

Such programmes widely watched by women create quarrels even if they do not exist, Stanley said, demanding a strong legislation to rein in channels showing them.

Do you agree with Vasanthi Stanley's views?
