Woman raped at gunpoint in Thane

A 29-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man at gunpoint near Bhayandar railway station in Thane district, the police said on Sunday. At least two persons were involved in the crime that took place on May 30 at a place opposite an ATM near the Bhayandar railway station between 2.30 pm and 5 pm, said sub-inspector Aparna Whatkar of Navghar police station.

The woman had named one Deepak (full name not known) and another unidentified man in her complaint, police said. The unidentified person put the revolver on the woman's head while Deepak allegedly raped her, they said.

However, the police did not elaborate on whether the two were known to the woman or they had waylaid her. A search is on for the two accused, they said. After a medical examination of the woman, a case wasregistered against the duo under sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 506(2) rw 34 and also under sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act.
