Will STALL Parliament if job quota bill is passed: SP

December 10, 2012 20:11 IST

The Samajwadi Party on Monday said it will continue to stall Rajya Sabha proceedings in case the bill providing for reservation to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes in promotion in government job is passed.

"We will disrupt the House and not allow it to function if the bill (for reservation to SC/ST in job promotions) is passed. We will continue to oppose the bill and we are ready for suspension," said SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav.

Asked if the party will disrupt the House proceedings if the government gets the bill passed amid the din, he said, "If they are adamant to get it passed, then we will do it."

On the issue of the bill being introduced by Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office V Narayanasamy in Rajya Sabha on Monday, the SP leader said, "The whole House was in turmoil. (Its introduction) is not according to the norms. It is unconstitutional. It will lead to hatred between communities and will create division in society."

Yadav said, "They are doing something to undo what the court has done. This is not the first time they are doing so. Majority of people are against this. We will continue to oppose it. It is unethical."

He said the BSP was depending on the government to get the bill passed but clarified that SP was opposed to the promotion quota measure.

On the Walmart lobbying report, the SP leader said, "It is very disturbing news. The government should clarify on the issue. SP wants the prime minister to reply and explain the issue. The prime minister should come to the House and explain who took the money, if money has been given."
