Former Intelligence Bureau chief and two-time governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Saxena has said that the terror outfits are getting desperate to vitiate the atmosphere and hit the tourism industry.
Speaking to rediff.com, he said, "The terrorist strike on the Central Reserve Police Force camp outside the police school in the heart of Srinagar was a desperate attempt. This is because we had been able to control the incidents of violence in the valley. We should have been more careful," he said.
He accused the separatist politicians of lending a helping hand by raising the bogey of Afzal Guru, who led the attack on Parliament on December 13 2001, and was executed in February this year.
Hurriyat Conference chief Umer Farooq has spoken about rise in anger among people after Guru’s hanging. In the last one month, 550-odd policemen and CRPF jawans had been injured in cases of stone pelting by the supporters of Guru.
"If they had information that terrorists planned to attack Srinagar, the state government should have taken precautionary measures to prevent such dastardly acts," he said.
Earlier, the terrorists would try to divert the attention of the security forces by acts such as set up a car bomb to divert the attention of the security forces and then try to walk across the border. "It is unfortunate we lost five brave CRPF men in the terror attack but we were able to liquidate two of the four intruders. The forces are trying to locate the remaining two," he said.
