A massive quake measuring 8.7 on the Richter Scale rattled northern Sumatra in Indonesia on Wednesday, at around 2:38 pm.
A tsunami warning has now been issued by the US Geological Survey after the quake.
Tremors were felt in Chennai, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram and several other cities across South India following the 8.9 magnitude earthquake.
