Pakistan denies visa to Shubha Mudgal, 8 others

April 15, 2005 22:39 IST

Despite the recent bonhomie in Indo-Pak ties, Pakistan has denied visas to a troupe of Indian musicians, including noted classical singer Shubha Mudgal.

The troupe was scheduled to perform in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

The nine musicians, who were to leave on the tour sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations on Friday, had to cancel their visit after the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi shot down their applications.

"It is very disappointing. In fact, this is also very surprising given that the two countries are going through a time of camaraderie and friendship," Mudgal said.

The singer said no reason was cited by the Pakistani authorities for not granting them visa.
