Pioneer of the 'White Revolution', Dr Varghese Kurien, who was admitted to Muljibhai Patel Urological (MPU) Hospital in Nadiad for treatment of old age-related health problems, has been shifted to Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital.

Kurien (86) was admitted to MPU on May 21, hospital sources said on Saturday.

He was shifted to Breach Candy hospital on Friday as his condition had not improved in the last 10 days at MPU, General Manager of MPU hospital Dr K Bhaskaran told reporters.

He was taken by a special chartered plane from Vadodara, he said.

Kurien is in the Intensive Care Unit, Breach Candy hospital sources said, without giving any further details about his condition.

Kurien was the pioneer of the 'White Revolution' in the country, which helped farmers achieve self-sustenance and better price for milk. The Amul brand, which is his brain child, has international reckoning today.
