Last updated on: July 11, 2014 13:04 IST

Resenting his transfer from Mizoram "without consulting him", Nagaland Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman today resigned from the post. The 86-year-old Congress veteran told PTI that he sent his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday morning.

"The transfer was made without consulting me," he said. Purushothaman said he would convey his decision to resign to the Centre. Talking to media persons on his arrival in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday evening, Purushothaman, a veteran Congress leader and former Kerala minister, said he would get actively involved with party politics, but not in electoral politics.

In a reshuffle of governors effected by the Centre on July 6, Gujarat Governor Kamala Beniwal was transferred to Mizoram while Purushothaman was transferred and appointed as governor of Nagaland. He was also given additional charge of the office of governor of Tripura.

He was sworn-in as the Mizoram governor on September 2, 2011.
