The condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital on Tuesday night following respiratory infection and fever, was reportedly stable on Wednesday.

He will be kept under observation in the hospital for the next three to four days.

"His general medical condition is stable. He spent a restful night. He is now better and his chest congestion is less," Superintendent of AIIMS D K Sharma said.

"He will be under observation for the next three to four days," Sharma said.

He clarified that the 84-year-old BJP leader is not in the Internal Care Unit and he is admitted in a room adjoining the ICU for security reasons.

"He is breathing normally," Sharma said. Vajpayee is being taken care of by a multi- disciplinary team of doctors, including cardiologists Dr Sampat Kumar and Dr V K Behl, neurologist Dr N B Padma and chest specialist Dr Randeep Guleria.

"Routine tests were conducted on Vajpayee which were normal," Sharma said, adding that "currently we are not allowing anyone to meet him except his family members".

The former prime minister is also suffering from hypertension and diabetes which needs to be taken care of, Sharma added.
