India's ambassador-at-large for Non-Resident Indians/People of Indian Origin Bhisham K Agnihotri has sent in his resignation in the wake of the defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition that appointed him three years ago.
A former professor of law based in New York, Agnihotri had announced his decision to quit soon after the general election results were declared on May 13.
He had met former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on May 14 in New Delhi to convey his decision to quit the post. Agnihotri, whose appointment had caused some controversy, sent over his resignation letter soon after he returned to New York from an official visit to Mauritius.
