Manmohan not an efficient economist: Advani

April 10, 2007 01:32 IST

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has failed to prove his ability as an economist as he has failed to control the rising prices of essential commocities at all levels, former deputy prime minister and the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Lal Kishanchand Advani said on Monday in an election meeting in Hapur.

Because of this, the tide is in favour of Bharatiya Janata Party and the people now look forward to the saffron party to tame inflation, he said.

Punjab, Uttarakhand (where the BJP and its allies swept to power) and Delhi (where the BJP won the civic body polls) are good examples of the BJP returning to power, he said.

Manmohan Singh proved his loyalty for Gandhi family rather than showing the same to farmers who have no option but to commit suicide due to prevalent adverse economic conditions, he said.

Regarding the CD issue, Advani said that it is no more an issue and it was politicalised to tarnish the BJP. He said that party president Rajnath Singh had already spoken on the CD issue and it is no more an issue.

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, in another election meeting in Ghaziabad, said that the Ramjanma bhoomi issue has never been erased from the agenda of the party and the temple will be constructed on the day BJP comes to power independently.

Regarding Congress youth leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks about former PM P V Narasimha Rao, Modi said that it is the culture of Congress party to throw stones at their deceased leaders rather than to respect them.
