UPA using CBI against BJP-led state governments: BJP

June 03, 2011 16:38 IST

Charging the United Progressive Alliance government with indulging in "vindictive politics", the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday alleged that investigating agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation are being misused to target BJP-ruled state governments.

"Of late, the UPA government is being vindictive and governments in BJP-ruled states are being targeted deliberately," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said at the inaugural session of the two-day national executive meeting being held at Lucknow.

Prasad alleged that in non-UPA ruled states, governors are creating hurdles in the working of governments. "While 2000 encounters took place across the country only 19 cases were reported in Gujarat. But even here the government is being targeted by misusing the CBI," Prasad said.

While the Supreme Court ordered inquiries in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, no investigation was being carried out in Congress-led states, the BJP leader alleged.

"We will strongly oppose this. We are not afraid and will continue to expose the UPA government," he said. Prasad also said that the seven-year tenure of the prime minister ranked very low in performance.

"The Sheila Dikshit government in Delhi spent Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 crore for the Commonwealth Games, why is there no inquiry against her. Who is saving her?" the BJP leader questioned.

"Even when former Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer and late Congress leader Sunil Dutt opposed Suresh Kalmadi's appointment as the chairman of the Organising Committee of Commonwealth Games, why was he appointed?" Prasad questioned.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi should give a reply to these questions as they have the ultimate responsibility, said the BJP leader.
