Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday ducked questions on Supreme Court Judge A R Lakshmanan refusing to hear a review petition filed by his son after the judge received an anonymous letter levelling allegations against him.

"I will not comment on any issue, which is under consideration of the court", Mulayam Singh, who is facing a Central Bureau of Investigation probe for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known income, said.

Refusing to entertain a volley of queries on the issue, the Samajwadi Party chief told reporters, "You (media) are asking irrelevant questions."

An emotional Justice Lakshmanan surprised the Supreme Court in the morning by refusing to hear a review petition filed by Mulayam Singh's son Akhilesh against the order for CBI probe into disproportionate assets case against the chief minister and his family after he received an anonymous letter levelling allegations against him.

Party general secretary Amar Singh blamed people who are against the review petition in open court for the episode.

"I am very sorry about it, whoever has done it. Actually the review of the case was allowed by the honourable judge (Lakshamanan) in an open court and all noted lawyers were present to argue. So there is no grouse as far as we are concerned against Justice Lakshamanan because he has allowed this," he told reporters in New Delhi.

However, Amar Singh said, "People who are against the review of the petition and those who are against the hearing of this case in open court, may have vested interests."

He asked how the Samajwadi Party and its leaders could be responsible for it. "If the case was heard and argued in open court, with the help of eminent lawyers, I am 100 per cent sure, we would have got relief. So it is a setback to me," he said.
