BJP leader crosses over to BSP in Uttar Pradesh

A senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Uttar Pradesh, Sangram Singh, today joined the Bahujan Samaj Party along with many of his supporters.

Singh, a former legislator from Nawabganj in Barabanki district and a former state minister, was earlier with the Congress and the Loktantrik Congress Party before joining the BJP.

"I was frustrated with the BJP's policies and the party workers in my area had been mounting pressure on me for
a long  time to join the BSP," he told reporters.

He said he was impressed with the work done by BSP President Mayawati and joined the party not to get a ticket for the assembly elections but to contribute to the state's welfare.

Welcoming Singh into the party fold, BSP state president Brakhu Ram Verma alleged that people were tired of the misrule by the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh and "were looking at the BSP as the only viable alternative."

The BSP alone has the capacity to fight the SP, and people like Sangram Singh were leaving the BJP after
realising this, he claimed.
