UP: 6 children killed in school roof collapse

Six students were killed and seven injured when roof of a private school collapsed in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

A portion of the roof of Ramanand Public High School in Jalilpur village caved in this afternoon when the classes were going on and some students were trapped under the debris, police sources said in Bijnor.

The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Six students -- Deepak Kumar (13), Shani (10), Sunny (12), Shohrat (13), Raghvendra (12) and Hariom (10) were killed in the incident, they said.

Police said that seven students were injured in the accident and were admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav while expressing grief over the incident had ordered an inquiry, an official spokesman said in Bijnor.

The chief minister has directed that proper treatment be provided to the injured students, he said.
