Last updated on: June 18, 2013 16:48 IST

Former UP minister Raja BhaiyaFormer Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya on Tuesday gave his consent for a lie-detection test in connection with the murder case of Kunda Deputy Superintendent of Police Zia-ul-Haq.

CBI sources said Raja Bhaiya appeared before the special Central Bureau of Investigation court in Lucknow and gave his consent to undergo the polygraph test in connection with the murder, which took place in his assembly constituency on March 2.

"I have neither changed my statement nor am I worried about anything. If CBI feels that its necessary, then I have given my consent," he told reporters.

The former minister said the truth should come to fore.

The agency had moved an application in the court of special CBI judge Mirza Zeenat seeking permission to conduct polygraph test on the former food and civil supplies minister with his consent.

The agency has filed its chargesheet in connection with the murder case but did not name Raja Bhaiya as accused. It has also issued a notice to Raja Bhaiya asking him to present his case before the court.

Although the CBI does not have any evidence that directly links Raja Bhaiya with the murder of the DSP, it wants to get a clear picture of his role, if any, in the case, CBI sources said. The sources said findings of the test would not constitute evidence in the case, but it would give inputs, which can be developed after thorough probe. The agency has already grilled Raja Bhaiya on May 15 and 16 in connection with the murder case.

Haq was shot dead on March 2 in Balipur village in Kunda area of Pratapgarh district where he had gone to probe murder of village head Nanhe Yadav. His wife Parveen Azad had accused Raja Bhaiya of conspiracy after which he had to resign from the Cabinet on March 4.
