January 23, 2007 12:45 IST

The Bihar government plans to take help of Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen for setting up an international university in Nalanda.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar told rediff.com on Tuesday - "We are eager to involve Amartya Sen to take his expertise for setting up the university in Nalanda."

Kumar had already requested Lord Meghnad Desai and Professor Jean Dreze, noted economists, who were at the global meet for a resurgent Bihar, which concluded on  Sunday.

Kumar has said that his government would introduce a bill in connection to set up the university in the state assembly soon.

Japan and Singapore have shown keen interest to invest in the proposed university at Nalanda, the idea of which was first mooted in the late 1990s.
