United Liberation Front of Asom has threatened to blow up the office of North Eastern Satellite Channel in Guwahati, former congressman Matang Singh claimed on a conversation with this correspondent on phone from Assam on late Friday evening.

He charged the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi in failing to do perform his constitutional duty of protecting the citizens from terrorist threats. "He has not sent even a constable for protection. We have written letters to the relevant authorities and drawn their attention towards the threat by ULFA," he said.

The militant organisation has been sending threats to NE channel head Miss Manorajana Gupta, wife of Matang Singh, for running stories on their network alleging links between the Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi led congress party and the terrorist group.

"The threat from ULFA proves our allegation of links between Gogoi and the militants. We are not withdrawing our allegations," Matang Singh whose NE channel runs 24 hours news and one Hi Fi channel for entertainment besides four FM channels. The Bangla version of the NE channel would be launched shortly.

Gogoi had threatened to file Rs 10 crore suit against Matang Singh's network unless it apologised for carrying stories that Assam CM had paid Rs 10 crore as a part of the deal under which ULFA would not strike during the National Games to be held in Guwahati from Feburary 9 to 18 in which more than 10,000 athletes and officials are expected to participate.

Congress president Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh attend the games on different dates.

"We did not talk about the money being paid by Tarun Gogoi to ULFA in our stories. This was mentioned in some of the local papers.

"But we would continue to expose his links with terrorists," a defiant Singh said. He admitted that he has been expelled from the Congress party but claimed that he was not making the allegations against Gogoi to give voice to his pent up feelings.

"I am not in Congress but I have not joined another party," Singh said.
