The militant group that has been held responsible for killing over 60 Hindi-speaking persons in the state last week, threatened that it would not hesitate to eliminate workers and leaders of the ruling Congress in case Assamese youth were killed by the Army.
However, the ruling party chose to put up a brave front in the face of renewed threat from the ULFA. The All India Congress Committee leader Chandan Bagchi and State Congress president Bhubaneswar Kalita, who had visited violence-hit Tinsukia and Dibrugarh district areas of Upper Assam, said that such threat was not new to the party.

The banned militant group alleged that the politicians from the Hindi-heartland were now flocking the state to shed crocodile's with an intention to create division among the people in the wake of killing of Hindi-speaking people.
The 28th battalion of the militant group has been primarily held responsible by the police and the Army for the inhuman attacks of Hindi-speaking migrant workers.
The Congress leader who had gone to visit violence-affected areas Upper Assam on Saturday told the media that killing of innocent Hindi-speaking people was not in the interest of the people of Assam and the ULFA had done this under the influence of outside forces inimical to the interests of the nation.
