The Department of Health in England is looking for doctors from India in the field of medicine, radiology, anaesthesia and psychiatry.
With around 3,200 doctors from the subcontinent due to retire in Britain within next four years (according to British Medical Association figures) the British health department has advertised in India for consultant medical staff.
The department is looking for doctors who have completed their masters followed by specialist training in any senior post, including senior registrar, senior resident, lecturer, associate professor, assistant professor and graded specialist (armed forces).
British high commission officials in New Delhi say suitable candidates will be invited to an 'NHS Consultants' career seminar, which will be held in February and July 2004.
According to the British Medical Association figures of about 30,000 full time general practitioners in the National Health Service, 5,000 are from the Indian subcontinent.
