Terrorists targetted a police van with a roadside bomb in northwest Pakistan's restive Bannu region on Thursday, killing at least two security personnel and injuring five others, a day after a suicide attack on a police station in the same area claimed 20 lives.

The police van was attacked with the remote-controlled bomb at Sardi Khel town in Bannu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said. The area borders North Waziristan tribal region, considered a hub of Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives.

The attack left two policemen dead and five more injured, the officials said. The injured were taken to a hospital in Bannu city. Security forces launched a massive crackdown against militants following the attack. Officials said the police had seized two bags containing explosives at Miryan Road in Bannu district and defused them.

A suicide attacker had on Wednesday rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into Miryan police station, killing 20 people, a majority of them security personnel, and injuring over 15 others. Several persons praying at a mosque near the police station were among the dead. The funeral of the 20 people killed in the suicide attack was held on Thursday amidst touching scenes.
