2 British soldiers killed by man in Afghan uniform

Two British soldiers were gunned down on Monday by a man in an Afghan army uniform in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province, officials said in Kabul.

Two British soldiers were killed after the man in the Afghan army uniform shot at them, a provincial Afghan official said on condition of anonymity.

He said the British soldiers were part of the NATO troops based in Provincial Reconstruction Team compound in Lashkar Gah, the capital city in southern Helmand province.

Though the details of the morning attack is still sketchy, NATO said "an individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform turned his weapon against International Security Assistance Force service members in southern Afghanistan on Monday, killing two service members".

The individual, who opened fire was killed when coalition forces returned fire. A joint Afghan and ISAF team is investigating the incident, the ISAF said in a statement.

Most of the NATO troops based in Lasker Gah PRT are British soldiers.

The latest incident seems to be the latest in a string of attacks in which Afghan security forces have targetted NATO troops or colleagues.

Tension has increased between the US and Afghanistan ince the row over the burning of Qurans at an American base n Afghnistan in February sparked riots and attacks that killed more than 30 people, including six American soldiers.
