Crediting India for his country's independence, renowned South African leader Archbishop Desmund Tutu on Tuesday expressed happiness at the progress made by the South Asian country in various fields.

Tutu, who met Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma in New Delhi, said South Africa was deeply indebted to India as it owes its freedom to this nation.

"I am happy to see that India has become one of the world's fastest growing economies. India has become the IT capital of the world," he said after meeting Sharma.

During the meeting, Sharma and Tutu recollected the historical ties between the two countries and discussed ways in which it can be further strengthened.
