November 30, 2011 18:25 IST

An 11-year-old boy was killed and 35 other students were injured, some of them seriously, when a soil-carrying truck skidded off the road and rammed into a school at Dhamangaon on Sinnar-Ghoti road in the district around noon on Wednesday.

The school, run by Janata Seva Mandal, is alongside the road, and the truck rammed into std sixth classroom after skidding off.

Angry villagers staged a road blockade and damaged a few vehicles. They also placed the body of the boy in the middle of the road, demanding arrest of the institute's chairman and other office-bearers.

The locals held school authorities  responsible for the mishap, for allegedly failing to shift the school to a new place from the existing premises which does not have a proper compound wall.

Nashik collector and senior police officials had reached the spot to try and clear the road, police said in the evening.

The boy, who was studying in the sixth standard, is yet to be identified. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals.
