Triple murder rocks Kolkata; 3 of family found dead in posh locality

January 16, 2016 13:47 IST

The bodies of three members of a family -- a woman and her two teenaged sons -- were on Saturday recovered from their third-floor apartment on posh Palm Avenue in South Kolkata, while her husband was found lying in the house in critical condition.

A senior police officer said while the blood-soaked bodies of Jessica Fonseca, 49, and her twin sons -- Tarren and Joshua -- were found lying in bedroom of the third floor apartment with their throats slit, Jessica's husband Neil Fonseca was found lying in a critical condition in the room and was rushed to hospital.

Tarren and Joshua were students of Class IX.

The building, located on Palm Avenue, is close to the residence of former West Bengal Chief Minister and CPI-M leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.

The officer said a police team rushed to the spot after getting a phone call at Karaya police station about the family not responding to calls, and recovered the bodies.

Preliminary findings indicate the attacks could have taken place due to family disputes, the officer said. The family had gone to a restaurant last evening and on return some arguments were heard from inside, he added.

Senior Kolkata police officers inspected the site, along with homicide squad personnel, and sniffer dogs were taken to the building.
