Trina Chakravarty crowned Miss India USA 2005

Trina Chakravarty of Florida, was crowned Miss India USA 2005 at a dazzling function organised at the prestigious Sun Dome, Tampa, Florida.

Trina is a first year student at the University of Florida. Her hobbies include Indian classical dance and she plans to become a surgeon. Trina is fluent in three languages -- English, French and Bengali.

The outgoing queen Reshoo Pande at the 24th annual event crowned the 18-year-old. "Trina's mother Aparna was Miss India New York in 1982," said Dharmatma Saran, chairman of the function. "For the first time in the 25 years' history of the pageant in the USA, a mother-daughter duo has bagged the crown either at the state or national level."

"Trina will now represent USA in the 15th annual Miss India Worldwide pageant to be held in Mumbai on December 3. Miss India USA is the oldest Indian pageant outside India, the organisers said.

Thirty-three contestants from across the US participated in the event in 2005.
