Escape for passengers of Kamrup Express

Passengers of the Dibrugarh-bound Kamrup Express from Howrah had a narrow escape when its 10 coaches and engine derailed about 90 km from Guwahati late Friday night.

The derailment took place at around 1030 IST near Pathsala station when the train was moving at a very slow speed due to heavy fog.

In Delhi, Railway Minister Nitish Kumar said that no one was injured in the accident, which appeared to have taken place due to fractured rail -- something that happens due to cold weather.

Work was on to put the derailed coaches back on tracks, he said, adding that the ministry had asked for a report on the incident.

Seven special trains were used to bring the passengers to Guwahati.

The train had left Howrah at 1852 IST on January 9, but was delayed by over seven hours due to a rail roko movement in Coochbehar district of North Bengal.

On January 3, the Secunderabad-Manmad Express had derailed in Maharashtra. The railway minister had then said that railway officials were to blame.
