Train services resume in Chhapra after Rajdhani mishap

Train services resumed on Thursday through Chhapra line under Sonepur division after debris was cleared from the track in the wake of derailment of the New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani at Goldenganj station which killed four persons and left 23 others injured on Wednesday.

Both lines have been opened for running of trains, Chief Public Relations Officer East Central Railway Arvind Kumar Rajak said.

Sealdah-Ballia train, Arapali Express, Bihar Samparak Kranti and a few goods trains have gone through after restoration of the line, Rajak said.

Commandant National Disaster Response Force Vijay Sinha said that after meticulous search for trapped passengers in all the 12 coaches derailed or overturned by lifting them with the help of crane, the NDRF left the venue late Wednesday night.

NDRF had rushed its two teams comprising 100 officials for relief and rescue operation at Chhapra after the mishap. In Patna, Principal of Patna Medical College and Hospital. Amarkant Jha Amar said that all 14 injured passengers admitted were out of danger and recovering.

He said railway officials have said they would be shifting them to RailwayHospital on Thursday evening. Railway minister Sadananda Gowda, who had visited PMCH on his return from the mishap spot, had ordered officials to shift the injured to the Railway hospital for better treatment.
