Three Maoist training camps were busted in Saranda forest in Jharkhand and huge quantity of explosives seized during a special drive being conducted in the area since Sunday.

About 250 kilograms of explosives, including live cartridges, two air-guns and material for making 200 uniforms for Maoist cadres were recovered from the camps during the drive in Saranda, famous for being Asia's largest Sal forest, in West Singhbhum district, said Deputy Inspector General (Kolhan) Navin Kumar Singh on Wednesday.

Security personnel also seized sacks of rice, potatoes, umbrellas and generator sets from the camps.

Singh said his Central Reserve Police Force counterpart Bhanu Pratap Singh also jointly led the operation from Baliva, the spot where 29 security personnel were killed in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists about five years ago.

The Maoists managed to escape, he said, adding that six alleged sympathisers had been detained for interrogation.
