Civilian aircrafts touched down the tarmac of Tezpur airport, basically a base of Indian Air Force in North Assam, after a gap of about two years since the airport was closed down for air traffic since September 2007 to carry out work on up gradation of infrastructure in the air base.

An Air India flight travelling in Kolkata-Tezpur-Silchar route was the first to land in Tezpur air port after a long time at around 7:10 am on Monday to pick up a lone passenger.

A source in the airport authority of India informed that soon private airlines will also operate flights to and fro Tezpur. Till then, the Air India will operate flights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in a week.

Being an important base of IAF and the latest hub of the state of the art Sukhoi fighter air craft of, security will remain very tight even for civilian flights in the airport which was set up during the World War 11 and upgraded recently before induction of Sukhoi air crafts.
