A day after restrictions were imposed on offering garlands and coconuts at Mumbai's Siddhivinayak temple, the management of the famous Shirdi Sai Baba temple in Nashik is considering a similar ban due to a threat perception.
"We have orally suggested to the temple trustees that they could consider the implementation of a similar restriction in the temple or they could provide an alternative to check the offerings. They said that they would consider it," Additional Superintendent of Police Mahesh Patil told PTI from Ahmednagar.
He said the trustees of the Sai Baba temple had proposed to meet in the coming days after which they would announce their decision.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shrikant Pathak said the decision to
tighten security at the Sai Baba temple was taken following a threat perception.
Special IG (Nasik range) P K Jain said the police had conducted a technical review of the security status of the temple after which certain recommendations had been made to the temple trust authorities.
"Till certain technical equipment is installed we have advised them to take measures to ensure that security in the temple is maintained well," Jain said.
Among the suggestions made by the review was increasing the closed circuit televisions, installing a scanner and frisking devotees before allowing them entry into the temple.
The Siddhivinayak temple, famous for its celebrity devotees, has imposed a restriction on the offerings allowed into its premises since Monday following a threat perception that they could be used for facilitating terror attacks.
