India has shared its concerns with the United States over cross border terrorism but the issue will have to be ultimately addressed at home and with our neighbours, Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon said on Friday.

"Cross border terrorism as an issue is something we have discussed with Under Secretary [Nicolas] Burns and we have gone through that in some detail. Ultimately, terrorism is an issue that we need to address at home and with our neighbours and that is the best place to deal with it," he told reporters at the Indian embassy in Washington after three days of talks with US officials.

Menon said India had a very meaningful relationship with the US on counter terrorism.

"We have a joint working group on counter terrorism. We have an existing exchange of information of intelligence. There are other steps that we have discussed like funding we have gone into," he said.

Menon asserted that terrorism cannot be segmented. "This is terrorism across the board. Where it come from, whoever does it, you have to deal with it, you have to eliminate it.

"There is no other way. This has been our view for many years and all our partners know that that is our view," he said.

"We are happy with the experience of working with the US on counter terrorism and we hope to take it to a new level in the future. We are willing to deal with it in every which way we can," he said.
