Mother Teresa's sainthood process not to be affected

Missionaries of Charity Superior General Sister Nirmala will join the faithful at the Vatican in paying the last respects to Pope John Paul II who passed away on Saturday night.

"I will be going to the Vatican to attend the funeral of the Holy Father," Nirmala told reporters at the MC headquarters in Kolkata after attending the order's morning mass which was dedicated to the pontiff.

'Christians have lost their shepherd'

Describing the death of the Pope as "will of God", she said "the holy Father has now gone to God".

In reply to a question, Sister Nirmala said the death of the Holy father will not affect the sainthood process of Mother Teresa.

"After Mother's death I met the Pope a number of times and had exchanged comment on her."

Nobel laureate Mother Teresa, who founded the Calcutta-based order and died in 1997, was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 19, 2003 in one of the fastest beatifications in Catholic history by waiving the mandatory five year waiting period.
