10 held for violence at Ramlila grounds

Ten men were arrested in connection with the violence at Ramlila Maidan during police action against Baba Ramdev and his followers while they were protesting against corruption.

"We have arrested 10 men in connection with Sundays' violence in Ramlila Maidan," a senior police official said. A case was registered at Kamla Market police station on Sunday against unidentified people on charges of rioting, preventing public servants from discharging duties and damaging public property.

"The arrested persons were found indulging in brick batting, stone pelting, throwing flower pots and solid objects as projectiles from the stage targeting the police staff.

"Some of them instigated the crowds and obstructed the police while they were discharging their official duties," the official said.

Of these, eight persons are in the age group of 22 to 33 years while the remaining two were aged 40 years and 45 years. Five of them belong to Haryana, two of them from Delhi and one each from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Assam.

The arrested persons included Ravi Naudiyal, 23 from Shahdara (Delhi), Arun Singh Rana, 25 from Alipur (Delhi), Yogendra Arya, 30, Sarvamitra, 26, Prem, 45, and Surinder Singh, 22, all from Jind in Haryana.

The others were Bhagirath, 32 from Bikaner in Rajasthan, Hariom, 32 from Hissar in Haryana, Ram Naresh, 33 from Raisin in Madhya Pradesh, Ravindra, 40, from Chachar in Assam.
